So this term is super recognized in the vanilla world. But within the kink world, we usually use the term "Domme" instead. I've looked into this and couldn't find anything or anyone who seemed to know why we don't just use the term Dominatrix. Derivatives are usually based on Dominatrix and NOT Domme (ie, humiliatrix, castratrix).
Domme is a lot easier to misspell due to typos and autocorrect. Domme is less recognized outside of kink. Domme is pronounced the same as the male equivalent (Dom).
In the past few weeks I've switched to using the term Dominatrix instead of Domme. For people not familiar with kink, Dominatrix is something they know and understand. Vanilla guys who message me are easily shut down by "Dominatrix" whereas for "Domme" I may hear "What's that?"
Overall, I think the change has resulted in an increase of sessions and decrease of confusion. No one in the world of kink has reacted to it.
So. Dominatrix is in. Domme is out.
